Mill scale, often shortened to just scale, is the flaky surface of hot rolled steel, consisting of the mixed iron oxides iron(II) oxide (FeO), iron(III) oxide (Fe 2 O 3), and iron(II,III) oxide (Fe 3 O 4, magnetite).. Mill scale is formed on the outer surfaces of plates, sheets or profiles when they are being produced by rolling red hot iron or steel billets in rolling mills.

The XRD pattern (figure 1) of the mill scale as raw material shows the presence of hematite (Fe
Aug 05, 2014· • Total reduction in scale = 0.95 mm • Percentage reduction in material loss due to mill scale by using anti-scale coating = 56.98% • On average, approximately a 70% reduction in mill scale is achieved by the use of anti-scale coating in open-die hot forging and hot rolling of stainless steel.
33 Magnetite: Properties, Synthesis, & Application Lee Blaney SYNOPSIS The subsequent report presents scientific data concerning properties of micro- (diameter in 10-6 m meter range) and nano- (diameter in 10-9 m meter range) magnetite, an iron oxide with chemical structure Fe3O4, particles; additionally, the properties of nano-particulate magnetite are
Jan 01, 2007· The formation of mill scale (mainly FeO and Fe) can also be accompanied by the precipitation of corrosion product mixture, viz. Fe 3 O 4, FeOOH, Fe 2 O 3, etc. . ... Samples were dried and fired at 1000 °C to determine the percentage loss .
Mar 01, 2007· The process byproduct of mill scale from the rolling process containing >70% Fe is generally recycled into the sintering plant. Generally, 70–100% mill scale containing high iron is being recycled through either briquetting or sintering route with out any difficulties. In some cases, de-oiling of the material is required.
The rolling mill scale used in this work was provided by mill of Egyptian iron and steel Co. The sample was submitted to chemical and x- ray analysis. As mill scale contains mainly FeO and Fe 3O 4, ... It has been found that in fluxed pellet, mill scale can improve the properties of pellet. In acidic pellet, the induration temperature has been reduced to a great extent (1250–1275°C) and all proper- ... with increasing percentage of mill scale addition.

Mar 15, 2015· The FeO content is an important control parameter in the sinter plant. When the chemical composition of an ore mix is fixed, FeO can provide an indication of sintering conditions, in particular the coke rate. A 2 % increase in the FeO content in sinter has been found to lower (improve) the RDI by 8 .
Aug 06, 2013· • Sintering of Powdered Mill Scale sample and Reduced Mill Scale sample was performed separately at 11200 C for 4 hrs. in an atmosphere of 10/90 H2/N2 • Density of the sample was measured to determine the physical properties • Chemical Analysis performed to determine the wt. % Fe in each of the samples EXPERIMENTAL WORK

tertiary scale during hot strip rolling of low-carbon steel in factory. The scale occurrence is discussed considering two aspects: thickness and composition. 2. Experiments The material used in the experiments was low carbon steel, whose composition in weight percentage was: 0.0425 C, 0.03 Si, 0.025 P, 0.015 S, 0.025 Al, and 0.004 N.
Major components of these particles are wustite (FeO), magnetite (Fe_3O_4), and hematite (Fe_2O_3). In this study, we tried to produce pure magnetite from the mill scale because of the largest ...
In this project, iron mill scale has been used to produce iron powder that can be used within the Powder Metallurgy process. To achieve this objective, the iron mill scale needs to be refined. This involve the work of grinding the iron mill scale to an effective particle size, which is 300μm. Latter, the grounded iron mill scale will undergo the magnetic separation process.

Nowadays most steels mills can supply their produce with mill scale removed and steel coated with shop primers over which welding can be done safely. PELLETS Iron ore pellets are spheres of typically 8–18 mm (0.31–0.71 in) to be used as raw material for blast furnaces.
Mill scale (M) and El-Dekheila pellets waste fine (E) were mixed together with different percentages varying from 0% to 100% mill scale in presence of 2.5% wt. molasses and 3% wt. water as binders. Cylindrical briquette specimens were molded using MEGA.KSC-10hydraulic press. Both drop
